This semi-abstract metal sculpture is part dinosaur, part bird. The mythical Sinornis was the same, a part ancient creature but part modern bird simultaneously, believed to be the first bird capable of flight while still having dinosaur features. This could be a metaphorical nod to our ancient city, a place that partially lives in the histories created in the oldest European settlement in America and the vibrant, progressive city that surrounds it.

Tebrugge, a welder by trade, put his craftsmanship to work with more creative and less industrial purpose for this sculpture. The monumental bird perches above the viewer in profile with its serpent neck coiled backward. With the sun shining brightly to backlight the Sinornis, the sculpture becomes reminiscent of a living bird found at Lakeside Park, the Anhinga.

This piece was removed from view due to the metal’s deterioration to preserve the sculpture beyond disrepair.
