The profound sculptor Enzo Torcoletti is most known for his abstract studies of the human form. Born and raised in Italy, he carries the traditional concept of capturing the figure but marries tradition with the contemporary modernist shift of dynamic experimentation that was happening during his formative years. His work, as with Sentinel, explores the abstracted figure in rich unconventional materials and sizes. Torcoletti moved to St. Augustine to teach at Flagler College and is still a resident of the ancient city.

The Sentinel stands guard watching the art building at Flagler College today since it was donated by Dr. Walter Scott in 2007. It is possible the donation was a nod to the changing of the guard as 2007 was the year Torcoletti retired. The Sentinel stands as a public art piece and a testament to the legacy of Torcoletti on St. Augustine.

Location: Flagler College nestled next to Kenan Hall facing the Molly Wiley Art Building.
