Stories of American Veterans Exhibition

“Stories of American Veterans” Opens November 20th in reFRAME Gallery

As part of a continued partnership, the St. Johns Cultural Council and St. Johns County are expanding the Art in Public Spaces program to include the Health & Human Services Building. The expansion began with opportunity for photographers to capture the image of Veterans, The Veterans Day Photography Contest and Juried Exhibition.

Local, regional, and national artists were invited to submit up to three of their original photos featuring a Veteran and an American flag. A jury selects 25 works for the exhibition, Stories of American Veterans, to display in the reFRAME Gallery at the St. Johns County Health & Human Services Building, 200 San Sebastian View, St. Augustine, FL.

Each Veteran has a story to tell and each photograph is much more than a dynamic picture. The photographers captured the stories of these American Veterans from local heroes to a Veteran who witnessed the flag raising at Iwo Jima. You’re invited to experience the pieces yourself, connect with the Veterans stories, and share your own.

An opening reception will be held on Thursday, November 20, from 5:30 to 7 PM at the St. Johns County Health & Human Services Building. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres and meet the talented photographers and Veterans.

Background

VFW Post 2391 and member Rick McAllister (writer, photographer, and Vietnam Combat Veteran) reached out to the St. Johns Cultural Council with the idea. The St. Johns Cultural Council, St. Johns County, St. Johns County Health & Human Services, and Veterans’ Services were unanimously in favor of the concept and support this intersection of art, community, and honoring Veterans.

There is no better time to recognize our servicemen and women, as the United States Army, Navy, and Marines celebrate their 250th anniversaries in 2025. The United States approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026.
