Collagraph etching is a non-traditional printmaking technique that uses low-tech, low-toxicity materials, such as matboard, to create etching plates. Debra is a lifelong resident of Florida, having grown up along the central Gulf coast of the state. As a child, she had free rein to wander her grandparents’ farm and ranch there. Those wanderings began a foundation of watching and observing the flora and fauna of the Southeast that now influence her art.
She holds a BA in visual arts from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida and a BA in English from the University of South Florida.
Debra Mixon Holliday will demonstrate collagraph printing on Saturday, July 6, and July 20 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Butterfield Garage Gallery. Debra will have her portable “baby” press to show behind the scenes how a collagraph print is made.
