Esther Burns is a local screenwriter. Her first foray into storytelling was as a professional ballet dancer. She later attended Penn State as a Film Production major, where she narrowed her focus to screenwriting and graduated summa cum laude with a BA in English (creative writing). Her work has placed in several competitions, including the Page Awards, the Fade In Awards, and the Slamdance Screenplay Competition.
Burns’ latest screenplay recently made the 2nd round of the 2025 Austin Film Festival Screenplay Competition. A romantic dramedy, The Double Cross puts a spotlight on all things Ancient City. When a young man, who had been abandoned by his mother, returns to historic St. Augustine to settle her estate, he discovers a Spanish colonial woman stuck down the well. This woman, abandoned by time, not only refuses to leave but claims the house is hers. 18th and 21st centuries collide as the two battle it out for the house, leading to a corset-ripping affair and a shocking revelation.
