Exploring Medea: Introducing Maddie by HD Eggleston

The St. Augustine creative team behind this original work offers staged readings from Euripides’ Medea along with select scenes from Maddie. Discussions such as the conventions of Greek theater, issues surrounding maternal filicide, depictions of Medea in the arts, and the challenges of developing original work will follow along with a Q&A with the audience.

Maddie pulls together independent St. Augustine artists from multiple disciplines (poetry, theatre, dance, design, music) for a collaborative and powerful piece of experimental theater. It nods to its classical Greek roots while speaking to contemporary issues. In the spirit of Euripides, it tells the stories of women with a sympathetic yet honest tone.

Rising Tide Productions is a collective of St. Augustine writers, directors, performance artists, and technicians dedicated to producing original scripts and innovative interpretations of existing works.
